Ahmedabad, a cosmopolitan city, is safe and also called a veggie paradise. Nowadays, there is a high demand for rental property as more and more people migrate due to job opportunities or higher studies. With the rise in demand for rental homes, it becomes necessary for the property owners to do police verification of tenants. This will safeguard the interest of owners.

STEPS INVOLVED IN POLICE VERIFICATION OF TENANTS

Police verification of tenants is done either online or offline.

OFFLINE PROCESS:

 STEP 1: You can collect the form from the nearest police station 

OR 

You can download the form from this Link 

STEP 2: When you click on this link, go to Online form > Tenant Registration Form > Download

Once you download the form, fill in all the details and submit it to the nearest police station along with the attached documents.

  1. 2 passport size photographs of tenant and landowner
  2. ID Proof of tenant (Aadhaar Card/ PAN Card/Voter Card)
  3. ID Proof of landowner (Aadhaar Card/ PAN Card/Voter Card)
  4. Address proof of tenant and landowner (Aadhaar Card/ Voter Card)

Post submission, you’ll receive an acknowledgment receipt. Keep this receipt for future reference.

ONLINE PROCESS:

STEP 1: Visit the site https://gujhome.gujarat.gov.in/portal/

STEP 2: Under “Our Services”, click on “Tenant registration”

STEP 3: Once you click on “Tenant registration”, you have to sign in. If you have not yet registered, then first click on “Register”.

NOTE: When you click on “Register”, you have to enter all the details and once you do that, you’ll receive an OTP.
 When you enter an OTP, registration will be done and now you are ready to sign in.

STEP 4: Enter the Username and password > Our services- “Tenant Registration”

STEP 5: Fill in the registration details and upload a scanned copy of Photo ID proof & submit

STEP 6: The next step is to fill in the property owner details & submit

STEP 7:  Fill the details of the tenant to whom the premises are let out

STEP 8: Now enter the Tenant’s Address details and family details and along with that, upload a photo ID proof.

STEP 9: Once you upload the documents and submit them, you’ll receive a declaration form. Read it and click on “I Agree” and Submit.

STEP 10: An application number is generated. You can check the status, download and print the form and submit it to the police authorities.

As per Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, a convict may be “punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to one month or a monetary penalty of Rs 200 or both” [Refer here]. Thus if a landlord fails to do the police verification of tenants, he/she may have to bear the consequences mentioned herewith.
